Max Alexander was born in 2016 in Los Angeles, California. While attending an arts-based preschool, he became inspired by artists like Vincent Van Gogh, Yayoi Kusama, Frida Kahlo, and Alexander Calder. In 2020, Max declared himself a dressmaker and, with his mother's support, who is also an artist, he started designing, draping, and sewing, launching his Couture to the Max label in 2021.
Initially using ribbons, plastic wrap, and fabric scraps fastened with knots and tape, Max's designs evolved into a more refined style after he learned to sew. At the age of 5, he began formal sewing classes, and within a year, he completed his first collection. The collection culminated in the success of his inaugural runway show in Los Angeles, California in the summer of 2021. Today, he receives commissions from celebrity clients, selling his work internationally.
While looking into his family history, his relatives recently discovered that Max’s great grandfather, Jack, was a dress pattern maker in Montreal and owned over 40 dress shops in his life. While some speculate that Max is the reincarnation of his great grandfather, Max’s intuition tells him that he was actually Guccio Gucci in a past life. Regardless, it’s safe to say that fashion runs in Max’s blood.
